Faith makes you act, your acting doesn´t produce faith.
I was recently sharing with a friend of mine about what faith is and sometime I have the feeling that faith is misunderstood by trying to produce it trough human efforts. There is a verse in Romans 10 that explains how faith gets you to act, makes you move. In verse 17 the definition is clear but though sometimes we get used to hear about it and keep on trying by our strenght to change. I underline it one more time FAITH MAKES YOU ACTIVE, NOT WORKS. Now there is an effort that corresponds to us if we look this verse with attention.
¨So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God Rom.10:17¨
If we should make an interpretation of this verse we would have to turn it arround and it would be: Read to hear to believe. Now, our effort is in understanding the truth this verse says of the importance of the word of God in order to believe. So we would have to start by searching God in his word, this is the first step, but this could turn into a trap if we use the bible to look for ¨practical things to do¨ instead of wanting to know the PERSON of Christ more closely, the character of God in order to understand the way God works. The word ¨¨hearing¨ in the verse gives the ideea of listening closely, paying attention, have a thirst to hear God, get close with this attitude of depending on the Holy Spirit in order for him to reveal what God wants me to see, this is called revelation. The biblical information doesn´t change you, but the biblical revelation trough the work of the Holy Spirit does.
So the base of every believer is the Word of God, the Bible, but the Bible truly works when we approach to it with an attitude of dependance in the work of the Holy Spirit to reveal us truths that transform our hearts and minds and takes us to express Christ in our lives in a practical way.
